i didn't really think that any of my photos from today were particular photojournalism slam dunks. capturing the numbers of the participants, the surroundings of third world urban africa, the athleticism of the competitors (10km winner, ugandan moses kipsiro, was the bronze medalist in the 5000m at this year's world championships), the excitement of the fans, etc. i would have liked to have gotten all that in just a well-composed and exposed photo or two.
this shot is leaning in the right direction. the athletes are close enough that you can really see their expressions, the crowd is right there and clearly we are in africa, the mc is there with his microphone, it's a close moment at the finish line...starting to tell a story.
