courtyard in stonetown, zanzibar

  1. i don't know if it's possible to take a bad picture in the streets of stonetown. which oddly enough means that it's really hard to take a good one - if there are no bad ones out there.

streets that are just wide enough to walk through side by side, tall buildings and crumbling walls provide great light and background.

this courtyard is lit at night with a single huge incandescent bulb hanging in the middle of the flags. i tried unsuccessfully to get a night shot but couldn't get it right. so in the second dose of irony in this comment, it turned out that one of my fave stonetown shots was of this courtyard during the day.

the two blues were standing around talking for a long time and i was hoping they would walk toward me, which they did, but then a red left the doorway at just the right time so i got some more color.
