dala dala loading up in stonetown, zanzibar

    here is the zanzibar version of the matatu, the dala dala. we like them better than matatus because of the open air and the sitting facing each other. there's no difference when it comes to packing in people, though. we were in one this size with 23 people, and a slightly larger pickup with 33 people. it's a pretty good scene.

    i stopped along a walk to get a photo of this one because of all the colorful women. this is one of my few photos where someone is looking at me and i'm looking at them and we both know that a picture is being taken.
