along the kampala - hoima road

  1. a couple snaps from today's drive up to murchison. i don't do too much drive-by shooting, but it does come in handy for describing the ugandan landscape - at least as seen from the road. and a lot of uganda is visible from the road.

i don't know if it's been blogged or not, but paige always tells our visitors who ask why don't they wear backpacks? "because that's where they carry their babies."

with 6.9 kids per woman, most ugandan women will spend a significant portion of their life with a kid on their back. so the head carries the load.

the bottom picture is a papyrus swamp near hoima. black water with good reflections, so i stopped to get a photo. those are lily pads in the foreground.
