this is the gas pump that got us home. it's hard to find diesel in uganda right now and this was the only pump in the village that wasn't dry.
foreground/background question here. clearly, the pump should be the focal point of the picture - who out there has seen a hand-crank operated gas pump? so why have the green guy sharp and the pump out of focus? it just turned out that the photos with the pump in focus and the green guy out of focus or the photos with everything in focus just weren't as interesting.
if i don't differentiate the foreground from the background with depth of field, then the green guy is just in the way, a distraction from the pump. but here it looks like he's supposed to be there and maybe is part of the story. (which he was)
