pileated woodpecker in flight

pileated woodpecker MN phil philip bowen photo photographer uganda

  1. i was down at the dock in the evening with my long lens waiting for the otters to come by when i saw the woodpecker flying towards us. i held down the trigger and got six images. did a remarkable job of keeping the center autofocus point on the bouncing bird. the funny thing was that every picture looked exactly the same. this pointy missile. i guess woodpeckers spend very little time with their wings extended but you'd still think that at eight frames per second i get one shot with wings.
