here is the view from our hotel room balcony in lalibela, ethiopia. this is looking pretty much due west.
it's the dry season, which is good and bad for viewing the landscape. the bad is that all the dust really obscures the long range visibility. the good is that all the dust accentuates the layers of topography here.
this is taken late in the day, around an hour before the sun went down. i spent a lot of time with all my lenses at all hours of the day on our balcony trying to get the landscape. i'm still not sure i succeeded, but i think the receding layers was one of its strongest characteristics, so this image won out.
