The evening before we had gone on a game drive looking for lions but it got dark (and stormy) before we were successful. We knew where they were - we could tell by the behavior of the other animals - but we couldn't spot them.

This trip, like our trip to Murchison last May, we camped on the Nile delta within the park. A big advantage of camping is being able to wake up among the animals and get going at or before sunrise. The other options mean waiting for a 7am ferry across the Nile then driving 45+ minutes to the prime sites.

So we were up and at 'em at 6:30 and headed straight for the place we thought the lions were the night before.

Sure enough.

We spent over an hour by ourselves with a mother, her tiny cub and another adult female. And in that time we got to see the entire sequence of a day in the life: get up, play, relax, stalk a herd of Kob, chase and kill one, bring it back to the shade and eat it.

Too awesome.philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05356821727851276753noreply@blogger.com
